12 Steps to Freedom is a video performance art piece symbolizing the struggle to remain sober and a play on the language of the 12-step program. As I “jump” into each step, a trail of red paint gradually appears beneath my white socks. The red paint can represent the pain addiction has brought to others, as well as the pain experienced while moving through the 12-step process.
