A Girl Is a Gun offers a commentary on the cultural practice of referring to women as ‘girls,’ particularly within the context of relationships between women. A seemingly harmless but ultimately harmful practice has emerged in which women use statements such as “I’m just a girl” to evade responsibility and frame themselves as innocent. In some cases, this rhetoric is accompanied by the normalization or encouragement of harmful behavior by peers. This underscores the importance of accountability among women. A Girl Is a Gun examines how language that appears playful or benign can also be dangerous when words and actions are not approached with careful consideration.
